Windows and doorDrafty Windows and Doors
Want to get great energy savings? Easy, just get rid of the windows and doors in your house. The largest losses of energy in your home are from doors and windows.

But who wants to live in a house that's basically a warehouse? Windows and doors give ventilation, views and access, while also contributing to the overall character of your house. These are all big quality-of-life factors, but it’s also important to make windows and doors as energy efficient as possible to maximize on your energy savings.

Watch Out for the “Big Savings” Sales Pitch on Energy Efficient Replacement Windows

“Save hundreds of dollars this winter if you get new windows.” This is a promotion many homeowners receive mail. That sounds good, and it’s “technically” right, but be sure to read the fine print.

Window replacement neededIt’s possible that you might save $126 (“hundreds” of dollars) per year by replacing old windows with more energy-efficient, new windows. But consider that the bill to replace all the windows in a home can easily go over $10,000. Saving only a couple hundred dollars a year, it would take a long time to recover this investment.

That’s why it's smart to talk to Climate Partners before you commit to replacing your windows. Be sure to consider other energy upgrades with quicker payback options (see Making windows more energy efficient).

Replacement windows make the most sense when you have very old, leaky windows or when you are doing a complete “gutting job” on an older house.

Of course, there are aesthetic reasons that may influence your decision. Just don’t get fooled on the big savings sales pitch.

Climate Partners says…
Do you feel a cold draft coming in from around your windows? Your windows may not be at fault. First of all, your body may simply feel a chill because it’s losing heat to window glass that's colder than your body temperature. It could also be that the shim space between your window frame and your wall framing wasn’t properly sealed when the window was installed. Climate Partners has the equipment and the experience to accurately assess your window energy performance.

Call or contact us online today for a Replacement Window Inspection and Estimate, and we'll help make sure your windows are as efficient as possible. Climate Partners services all of Connecticut, including New Haven, Hartford, New London, Middlesex, Windham, Tolland, Litchfield, and Fairfield counties.
