We depend so much on lamps and light fixtures that lighting
accounts for 15% of a typical household electric bill. The good news here is that by
taking advantage of the latest lighting technology, you can reduce your lighting bill by
50%-75%. That’s major savings.
Climate Partners works with homeowners to help them reduce their home energy bills. As part of our Home Energy Audit in Connecticut, we can show you how much you can save by switching your home lighting over to compact flourescent light bulbs.
Replacing your old-fashioned incandescent light bulbs with high-efficiency compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL’s) is a fast, effective way to save energy and lower your monthly electric bill. In fact, having Climate Partners replace your inefficient incandescent lights with CFLs will pay for itself faster than any energy upgrade.
Climate Partners says…
What’s good for your house is also good for the country.
There’s a lot at stake when it comes to saving energy on lighting.
If every household in the U.S. switched to energy efficient lighting,
we’d save enough electricity to shut down 90 power plants! And in
a single year, our reduction of greenhouse gas emissions would be
like taking 800,000 cars off the road.
• Greater efficiency. CFLs are about 75% more efficient than incandescent lighting
at converting the electricity you pay for into light (see sidebar).
• Longer life. A CFL will last about 10 times longer than your incandescent light bulbs.
• CFL’s are Cool. A typical CFL operates at just 90 degrees vs. 350 degrees for incandescent
bulbs. Heat has always been an inefficient by-product of incandescent technology. With
CFLs, you’re not paying for extra electricity that gets converted into heat instead of light.
